In an endeavor to deepen our continued strategic commitment to the customer, the goal of the new CSD is to enable our organization to manage projects in a professional manner, providing additional value to customers and the ultimate customer experience.

The following is an interview with Dennis Sneath, the Manager of Road Science’s new Customer Service Department.

What most excites you about the implementation of the new CSD?

Dennis: I am most excited about the opportunities & challenges associated with establishing the CSD, being able to develop a supply chain management (SCM) tool that will give anyone with questions, problems, or RS information needs a tool to provide them with a solution.

How do you envision the CSD impacting daily operations and/or future business with customers?

Dennis: The CSD will maintain & support a single call-in number. With courteous, quick, & accurate responses, this will ensure that current customers enjoy doing business with us and encourage potential customers to work with such a client-focused organization. Also with the development of the SCM tool, it will provide information for projects that will proactively identify any needs for a customer’s project. One chief aim of the CSD is to provide the customer with the tools they need to get them to view RS as their supplier of choice.

Some of the CSD’s main responsibilities will be to:

  • Continually define internal & external customer needs
  • Develop & manage a SCM tool
  • Compile & communicate internal & external project requirements
  • Purchase non-asphalt raw materials as needed
  • Maintain relationships with all customer segments
  • Support the 1-877-354-1851 number for customers
  • Be single contact point for incoming producer info
  • Assist Accounting in reconciling sales info

So many times in life we have heard, “If only I was given a chance to do_____, I would have made such an impact.” Probably one of the most tragic comments in the World.

We have been given a chance at Road Science. We have been given an opportunity to bring about lasting improvements for ourselves, our customers, and our society.

We have not been given a guarantee of what the future holds. We have not been given a lock on the future, but we have created an incredible team, a business bought right, innovative technology, and profits.

We have embraced a better business model that has been validated in every other industry.

Focus on customers, focus on innovation, and focus on strategic alliances that allow comparative value to thrive. Innovative destruction has aligned knowledge with customer needs while enhancing cost effective delivery.

Our business is thriving and growing. Our growth is through helping customers by asking what they need versus what we need.

We have been given a chance. And, we are capitalizing on this chance everyday. We are creating our business by being a Leader in Road Paving Technology. We are doing this in Material Sciences, Preservation, and Recycling.

Some in our industry will be fearful of us. We are explorers similar to Christopher Columbus’ voyage to the New World, a better one.

The business model of innovation & customer focus with partner manufacturers has been proven in just about every other industry.

Its time for a better business model to take its place in the paving industry, and what a voyage it is, and will be for all of us.

Recently, Road Science teamed with the Dunn Company in Mason County, IL, on a recycling project using Road Science’s ReFlex® emulsion technology. The Wirtgen 3800 CR (modified 2200, Vogele screed) was used to pave the road. This link on YouTube shows the entire process, from the emulsion tanker to the recycling equipment. Impressive to note is now quickly the process occurs and how compact the equipment is.

Over the last year and a half, Road Science, LLC Account Manager, Lance Brooks, and his team have been working with the LADOTD (Louisiana Dept. of Transportation & Development) & LA Transportation Research Center (LTRC) to develop a “Spray Paver Thin Overlay” strategy. All efforts have been in response to the State’s need for quicker turn around on their flexible pavements. Completely customer-focused in nature, the relationship between Road Science and the LADOTD has been marked by the consultative expertise of Road Science and both organizations’ willingness to candidly share ideas. After extensive review among all nine of its districts, as well as the LTRC, the LADOTD’s solution is to implement a spray paver thin overlay as an alternate to every 2” mill-and-fill state-wide.

The implementation of this new strategy is paramount to the maintenance of Louisiana’s flexible pavements. Congratulations to the LADOTD! For more information on this particular strategy or Road Science’s expertise with flexible pavements, email lbrooks@roadsciencellc.com or call 918-524-7100.
